John Thomas (Tom) Ferrier was born on 17 January 1908 and enrolled at the School on 21 September 1920.
Tom left school in 1923 to become an Apprentice in a Printing Office. He later moved from Guisborough to Darlington.
During World War II, Tom served in the 50th Division of the Royal Corps of Signals and he died on 29 May 1940, aged 32, in Flanders, probably in the evacuation of troops from Dunkerque.
He is buried in the Ramsgate and St Lawrence Cemetery in Kent and his name is also recorded on the Grammar School’s War Honours Board — alongside the names of all of the Grammar School’s alumni to die in the First and Second World Wars.
